Bathroom Designs - An Idea That Can Make All the Difference
By Yamini Chowdhury

A dull, lifeless and lackluster bathroom can be quite an eyesore. And in most cases, the space's plaintive wail does not stir the homeowner into action, which really is such a pity considering the fact that we spend a great deal of time in this extremely personal space.
What also bemuses me is that most people treat every bathroom designs idea with passive resignation. Contrary to popular belief, one does not require immense wherewithal to give the bathroom a face lift. All it takes is an imaginative mind and oodles of patience, and you could transform this clichéd space into a spectacular work of art.
Important Considerations
You may chaff at your restrictive bathroom, and will stop at nothing to enhance its visual appeal, but there are important factors that you just cannot afford to gloss over:
  • The size of the bathroom is of paramount importance; the deciding factor that separates a luxurious master bathroom from a functional half bathroom.
  • Can you relegate the significance of convenient bathroom storage to the background?
  • Adequate ventilation can infuse copious doses of freshness into the space. A good ventilation system will ensure that mold and mildew do not blight the sheer magnificence of the space.
  • Don't remain in the dark about the radiant benefits that adequate natural light brings along with it through windows and skylights.
Ideas That Cause A Flutter
The thought of generating ideas to improve the décor of the bathroom can make any layman break into cold sweat. But not anymore; because here are three incredible ways that are just waiting soak your bathroom in style and elegance:
  • Merely replacing the shower or tub tile or even the flooring tile can cause a dramatic reversal of fortunes. And before you conjure up disturbing images of this project wrecking havoc on your savings, remember it can be accomplished in just $500.
  • For those that believe in results without caring a fig for the horrendous costs, then replacement of the fixtures-sinks, toilets and tub is just what the doctor ordered. You are sure to go into raptures at the end of it all.
  • But if you belong to the more financially astute breed of customer, repainting the bathroom in colors that match your vibrant personality is your best bet. It's also the one place that enables you to display rather unabashedly, your latent creative genius.
So stop kvetching about your bathroom and get cracking as soon as possible.

Shower Curtain Remodel

Shower Curtains - Selecting the Perfect One For Your Home
By Chuck R Stewart

Shower curtains are not usually one of the major decisions a homeowner spends much time considering before buying. The consideration and purchase of a shower curtain, however is not something that should be done without the proper attention. There are many things that should be taken into consideration. Cost, material and durability are just three items to think about before your purchase. All of these will help you achieve the appearance and impression you are hoping for.
When planning to buy your shower curtain it is important to think about the "look" you are attempting. This may be casual, formal, playful, tailored or un-tailored. Is it going to be hung in a child's bathroom? Perhaps it is for a master or guest bath. Will the shower curtain be where visitors will be seeing it? Is it in a bathroom that is used daily or perhaps just once in a while? All these instances should give you an idea of what type of material would suit the spot best. Shower curtains made of cotton or linen give the appearance of elegance. They are usually more full and flowing and therefore are a bit more formal than a vinyl or plastic curtain. Perhaps you want a clean, simple look in which case your "shower curtain" should actually be a glass door.
Durability and the resistance to mold and mildew are often a deciding factor when choosing the right shower curtain. This is where the amount of use a bathroom shower gets is crucial. While the fabric curtains are beautiful to look at, they may not be practical for long term, every day use. It is difficult to let a full and luscious shower curtain to air out and dry properly between each use. This means that mold and mildew will grow and multiply easily and abundantly. Vinyl and plastic shower curtains are less likely to have mildew grow on them and, if it does, cleaning is a snap. Many homeowners get the best of both worlds by hanging a vinyl shower curtain behind their more decorative fabric curtain. A fairly new fabric on the market is hemp. Hemp is a good choice because the heavy fabric is made from plant fiber, like linen or cotton. Hemp however is naturally antibacterial and antifungal, so it repels mold and mildew. For the environmentally conscious, hemp often grows organically and gets colored with natural dyes. These shower curtains remain durable after many cycles of wash and usually don't need a vinyl liner underneath. Of course a glass door is extremely durable and easy to keep clean.
The cost of your shower curtain is dependent on which type you choose. The vinyl or plastic curtains are the most inexpensive. The fabric curtains vary greatly. You can find many that are rather cheap or have one custom made by drapery seamstress. Hemp is a relative inexpensive alternative. Glass doors are usually the most expensive.
Whatever look and feel you are attempting to pull off in your bathroom, you can achieve it by giving some thought to your shower curtain. Consider the cost, durability and material. Ask the salesperson for any advice she can offer. Take your time so you are pleased with the final decision. In the end, you will be glad you did.

Choosing the Right Bathroom Vanity Design
By Groshan Fabiola

One of the easiest ways to revamp your bathroom is with a new bathroom vanity. Your vanity should coincide with other fixtures and design features in your bathroom. There are those with cabinetry, which could be vanity cabinets, wall cabinets, recessed cabinets and medicine cabinets. Some vanities or storage pieces also have open shelving. As far as design goes, cabinet vanities are often the most aesthetically pleasing. Then there are frameless vanity cabinets and European style vanities, which are more modern.
There are laminates, ceramic tile, wood, composite materials or solid surface materials including stone, stainless steel and concrete. Ceramic tile is probably the most common bathroom vanity surface material. Whatever material and style you choose, making the effort to find a bathroom vanity that suits your storage and design needs will pay off. Shelving Creates Space In Your Bathroom
Executive Summary By Aazdak Alisimo

Bathroom tier shelves off a good solution.
The tier shelf is simply a series of shelving units on different levels much like a book shelf. The two different types of bathroom tier shelves are the free standing and the wall mounted. A free standing tier shelf unit is designed to sit against the wall of the bathroom and provide an open storage area for bathroom personal items and towels and washcloths. If the tier shelf unit can be placed within arms reach of the shower or tub, the accessibility problem is solved.
The wall mounted tier shelf can be hung right inside the shower enclosure. Different units are two tier, three tier, and even four tier design. Many people are concerned with the idea of mounting the units in existing showers. The bathroom tier shelf unit can be a decorative accessory as well as a functional one.

Tips For Choosing the Best Bathroom Shelves For Your Needs
Executive Summary By Cheryl Marland

In your bathroom, you need to decide what you are going to use shelves for, before you can choose the best glass bathroom shelves. Glass shelves provide a certain "less is more" elegance, at a reasonable price. There is the tracking style, in which you screw long metal vertical strips down the wall, insert metal brackets at the desired heights, and then lay your glass across the brackets. For a permanent, single shelf, you might choose one with plain brackets. Again, if the glass is very heavy and needs more support, a third bracket would be advised. There is also free-standing glass shelving. The space-saver shelving units fit over the toilet tank and have shelves above. They come in both chrome and brass with glass shelves. If you have plenty of floor space in your bathroom, but could use more storage, a free-standing brass or chrome frame with adjustable glass shelves would be very elegant. On the top shelf, a lovely green cascading plant, or a low, artificial flower arrangement, and a small sculpture.

Essentials of Wallpapering

Executive Summary By Allison Ryan

Wallpaper patterns may be divided into two principal classes, the "one-top" or straight pattern papers, and the "two-top" or drop patterns. It is necessary to cut these papers so that the design matches when hung. For this reason consideration of the design is necessary before cutting such papers. The top of a flower or figure must not be cut in half. A "one-top" or straight-patterned paper is one in which the design matches on opposite sides of the paper.
Before cutting the paper, the required length is to be determined. Allowance must be made for cutting and trimming at the top and bottom. For example, a paper may have a pattern which is 12" high.
If there is no room at the top for trimming, the whole pattern must be cut off since, as has been said, the top must always have a whole pattern resting about 1/2" below the picture molding or ceiling line. The table is 7' long. Examine the design to determine the best place to cut, remembering that the top of the pattern will be about 1/2" below the picture molding.
The rest of the paper is cut into equal lengths of 8' 6". No bathtub is a good work table, even if it is a walk-in bathtub. In a drop pattern, every other length drops one half of a pattern. If the pattern is 20" long, for example, the adjoining pattern will be 10" below this.
It can be seen, then, that a drop pattern paper cannot be cut the same as a straight-pattern paper. If all lengths were cut the same, every other length would not match at the top. The wallpaper is noticeable from the shower as well. The easiest way to cut these papers is to take lengths from separate rolls. Cut the first length as described for a "one-top" pattern. Cut the next length off the other roll, matching it at the top
Continue to cut lengths alternately from one roll and the other, keeping the two separated. If there is no mantel in the room, the first width should be hung between the windows.
Then follow around to the right, covering one side of the room. If you are working in a bathroom with no windows, try affixing a bright lamp onto the shower tray or the shower doors (this might be difficult with frameless shower doors) to eliminate most shady corners. The wall over the mantel is marked so that the paper will be centered. This procedure is as follows: Measure the width of wall over the mantel to find the center. If the space requires four widths, place the first width of paper with its center on the center line of the mantel. The remaining part will be covered with two partial widths of full length.

Bathroom Wallpaper - Unwind in Affordable Luxury

Executive Summary By Barbara Tobiasz

I had my heart set on wallpaper but was reluctant since I had been told that moisture and humidity can cause the wallpaper to peel.
I still found myself thumbing through wallpaper books and magazines. You see, vinyl wallpaper is splash proof but not water proof. If the bathroom has sufficient ventilation and all edges are correctly pasted it can withstand this environment. Vinyl does have many attributes such as washabilty, scrubabilty and durability if placed wisely.
To compete with other wall covering, wallpaper manufacturers have created many new designs such as the slate effect, stone effect, tile effect, water splash and mosaic effect. Since it was unwise to hang the wallpaper on all the bathroom walls, I went with a combination of all three, wallpaper with accent borders, tile and paint.
I have a sitting room in the master bath, that upon the walls, I placed a vinyl wallpaper of a vintage sea foam and gold stripe pattern. Above it was an antique look of imperial bath tubs with the classic black and white tile floor. To help this pattern flow, on half of the wall, I choose the same design in tile around the bath. Above the bath I merely painted the wall in the same hue as the imperial bath. Neutral colors like white, beige, or yellow help make the room look larger and feel airy. The patterns and colors should compliment each other. There were pictures of boats, sea shells, fish, birds and sea creatures.
